LA Lakers shooting guard, Kobe Bryant set a record for player with the most missed field goals in his team’s 107-102 loss to Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday
The record was first held by Boston Celtics, John Havlicek; Bryant moved one point more than Havlicek when he missed a 14-foot fadeaway jumper from the left side, giving him 13, 418 career missed field goals
The loss to Grizzlies makes it the 6 straight loss in the current NBA season with Kobe Bryant and NBA legend Steve Nash in the team’s line-up
When asked about the poor record, Bryant said:
"Nah, I don't follow that stuff, man.
"Well, I'm a shooting guard that's played 19 years," whimsically he enthuses: "Like I said, 'shooting' guard, 19th year."
Prior to the game take-off, the 36 year-old was 13 missed goals behind Havlicek’s record and with 6:22 left in the fourth quarter, he surpassed that record
"I don't care about it, to be honest with you.
"It is what it is. I remember when I was a kid and I watched Michael shoot 49 times in an NBA Finals game. Can you imagine if I did that and lost? Puts things in perspective.''
Bryant has missed at least 20 shots in 44 games, the fourth-most such games in NBA history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Kobe Bryant now leads the list of 5 players with the most missed field goals
John Havlicek (13,421) Elvin Hayes (13,296), Karl Malone(12,682), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (12,470) and Michael Jordan(12,345).
