The Adamawa state government has set up a special school at the Damare Camp, Yola, for children of persons displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Volunteer teachers from Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), and American University of Nigeria (AUN), are
offering their services in special schools set up for children of persons displaced by theBoko Haram insurgency at the Damare Camp, Yola.
Student Pulse gathered that about 2,558 children, 1,268 boys and 1,290 girls, are registered at the camp.
According to the Director of Rescue, Relief and Rehabilitation, of the Adamawa Emergency Management Agency, Mr Sylvanus Papka, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), pupils are already enrolling and attending classes.
Papka revealed that the pupils are being taught by volunteer teachers from AUN and MAUTECH.
Both institutions are based in the state capital.
Head Teacher of the school, Mr Jacob Nihanta, told NAN that 497 pupils have already registered, adding that classes have begun in earnest.
He said there are plans to relocate classes to a nearby primary school.
AUN is noted for its active involvement in providing relief materials to displaced persons.
