Famous Cote d’Ivoire international soccer player, Didier Drogba, has said he will make a €1 million ($1.37 million) donation to the families of victims of the worst mining disaster in Soma, Turkey that killed over 300 coal miners last Tuesday.

BBC reported that at least 25 people have been arrested in line with the mine collapse disaster.
The Galatasaray attacker has made the generous donation in the wake of news that he wanted to leave after spending two season at the top Turkish club. He had previously played at Chelsea Football Club in the UK where he won numerous English Premier League titles and one European Champions League cup.
In his role as U.N. ambassador the Cote d’Ivoire international has made this gesture in support of the people of Soma.

“I am a U.N. ambassador of goodwill and I will do all that I can to help the people in Soma,” Goal.com quoted Drogba saying. “But I don’t want anyone to use my name. I’m not someone who will promote himself in such issues. I don’t need this sort of a self-promotion.”

Drogba is set to play at this year’s World Cup, but thereafter he is a free agent in the summer.
