Medical Director of Cannabis Sativa Inc, providing the “high-quality cannabis products”, claimed that marijuana can protect and cure people from the deadly Ebola virus currently ravaging West Africa.
Nigerian Bulletin recalls the mechanism of the EVD influence on the body. The disease targets the RNA in cells, takes over, then begins to replicate itself. Then Ebola hides from the virus killing cells by producing cloak-like surface proteins. Thus it gets hard for the body to fight the virus.
In the worst development, when body releases a massive amount of enzymes (cytokine storm) and the fatal amount of immune cells are being activated, a person dies.
Apparently when those enzymes are blocked, the virus becomes ineffective.
Dr. David B Allen, who is a former cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon, explained that at this point cannabis becomes a potential healer.
“That’s where marijuana comes in as a potential saving grace to those afflicted with Ebola. As Joe Martin points out, cannabis is contains natural antiretrovirals and is also an anti-inflammatory able to reduce the harm to the body caused by a cytokine storm. “
He also mentioned that marijuana had already been adopted as a legitimate regulator of immune system processes for HIV patients adding that similar processes could work for Ebola.
Expanding his ideas, Dr. Allen noted that cannabis can prevent Ebola-associated symptoms in particular hemorrhaging and cell leaking.
“Strong evidence suggests that cannabis can be a positive treatment for those suffering from Ebola, but all of which should be taken with a grain of salt. These are hypotheses, based on research involving other viruses, and not proven fact. Still, the argumentation is enough to warrant a clinical trial. Worst to worst, Ebola sufferers will smoke a bit of weed, which won’t make things worse…we hope.”
It would be recalled that soon after Ebola had sneaked into Nigeria, rumours about various means of virus treatment appeared on the Internet. One of the most dangerous rumours, which claimed several lives before it was debunked by health authorities, was that Ebola could be prevented and cured with hot water and salt solution.
At the moment there is still no approved Ebola drug anywhere in the world. However the trials of EVD vaccines are currently ongoing with the scientists hoping to make the medicine available for vaccination soon.
Meanwhile according to the World Health Organization (WHO) the death toll from the hemorrhagic fever has exceeded the 5,000 figure and shows no signs of stopping.
